Once an ambitious employee at global conglomerate, Abaddon Industries, Amy's self-destructive choices, both at home and at work, have resulted in a very public, humiliating nervous breakdown. After an extended stay at a treatment center in Hawaii, Amy returned to her fractured life, having been reassigned to work with a group of misfits in the company's basement.

After Amy's crisis, Helen takes her daughter in "until she gets on her feet." A woman who keeps her thoughts to herself, Helen is very good at being impassive in the face of emotional displays.

Amy's seemingly meek co-worker, took an interest in Amy when she was transferred to Cogentiva. Tyler is constantly drawn in to Amy's schemes during work hours and beyond, much to the annoyance of their boss Dougie.

Amy's ex-husband Levi was a functioning drug addict. They had a troubled relationship, though the chemistry that first brought them together still exists.

An Abaddon executive, Damon had an office romance with Amy and bears the brunt of her temper when she loses her job.

Dougie is a programmer hired as a VP by Abaddon to get a new productivity software up and running and oversees Amy and the other data processing people in Cogentiva.

The head of Human Relations for Abaddon Industries, Judy is an expert at maintaining a blandly unrevealing corporate facade.

Amy's former assistant Krista watched in horror as Amy went berserk in the hallways of Abaddon Industries. Since Amy returned from treatment, Krista puts on a very brave, very false face, as she tries to keep Amy at arm's length.
